The Night "OneRepublic" Walked Into Razzouk Tattoo

Razzouk Tattoo - Since 1300

Some of our most memorable stories begin with an unexpected visitor walking through the door.

This one began with a phone call.

One afternoon, we received a rather unusual request. A representative of a group of VIP guests wanted to know whether we could close the shop exclusively for them. They were interested in getting tattooed, but wanted complete privacy, away from other clients.

Wassim's answer was simple.

No.

Not because we weren't interested, but because the shop was already full of appointments. People had booked their sessions, some having traveled thousands of miles to receive their tattoos, and we weren't about to turn them away.

But then came another suggestion.

"What if we come after hours?"

Now that was something we could arrange.

And so, without knowing exactly who was coming, Wassim and his son Anton agreed to stay late and welcome a rather mysterious group of guests.

Little did we know what was about to happen.

A Late-Night Surprise

Late that night, the group finally arrived.

They had just landed and, rather than heading straight to their hotel to rest, had made Razzouk Tattoo one of their very first stops.

They were friendly, enthusiastic, and genuinely interested in the history of our family and the traditional wooden stamp designs.

Everything seemed perfectly normal.

Wassim began tattooing one of the men, who happened to be the group's manager.

As they talked, the manager asked him a question.

"Do you know who these people are?"

Wassim looked around.

"No, I don't."

The manager smiled and explained that the people accompanying him were members of a world-famous band. They had been looking forward to visiting the shop and had made it a priority to come immediately after landing.

Naturally, Wassim became curious.

"What's the name of the band?"

"OneRepublic."

Wassim paused.

"Are they famous?"

The manager laughed.

"Yes, very famous! But it's okay, you're an older person. I understand."

Apparently, one of the biggest bands in the world had just walked into the shop, and Wassim had absolutely no idea.

"Anton, Act Like You Know Who They Are!"

Realizing that his son might recognize the group, Wassim decided to send Anton a discreet message.

He pulled out his phone and typed:

"Act like you know who they are. They're a band called OneRepublic."

A few moments later, Anton appeared.

And instead of following his father's instructions, he simply replied:

"Dad, I know who OneRepublic is!"

As it turned out, Anton was already familiar with the band's music. Being a guitarist himself, he had listened to their songs and had even tried purchasing tickets to their upcoming concert.

Unfortunately, the show had already sold out.

He mentioned this to the band, and the conversation naturally turned toward music.

What followed was an evening none of us expected.

The musicians were incredibly down-to-earth. There was no sense of celebrity or importance, just a group of people genuinely enjoying their time together.

While Wassim continued tattooing, Anton spent part of the evening talking with the band about music, guitars, touring, and their experiences as musicians.

What had initially been presented as an exclusive VIP appointment quickly became one of the most relaxed and enjoyable evenings in the shop.

An Unexpected Invitation

As the night came to an end, one of the band members, their bassist, remembered something Anton had mentioned earlier.

The sold-out concert.

He took out his phone, made a call, and looked over at Anton.

"I've arranged five tickets for you. Would you like to come see us play?"

It was a completely unexpected gesture, and naturally, Anton was delighted.

"Of course! Thank you!"

What had started as a conversation about music had turned into an invitation to see the band perform live.

Before the night was over, Anton shared the news with a family member who was also a fan of OneRepublic.

"I managed to get tickets to the concert!"

The response came with understandable disbelief.

"How? Isn't it sold out?"

Anton explained:

"We just tattooed them, and they invited us to the show!"

A few nights later, Anton and his family member attended the concert, watching the same musicians who had recently been sitting in our tattoo chairs perform in front of thousands of people.

All because of a late-night appointment that almost never happened.

More Than Just a Tattoo

Looking back, one of the funniest parts of the entire experience was Wassim trying to convince Anton to pretend he recognized a band Anton was already familiar with.

But beyond the laughter, the experience reminded us of something we've witnessed countless times throughout the years.

The most meaningful connections rarely happen because of someone's fame, profession, or status.

They happen when people sit down, share stories, and discover something in common.

OneRepublic could have been just another famous group passing through Jerusalem. Instead, they became part of a memory our family still laughs about today.

And for a band that had traveled across the world to play for thousands of fans, it's rather special to think that one of their first stops was a small family tattoo shop in the Old City.

As for Wassim?

Well, he certainly knows who OneRepublic is now.

And that is another story from the shop.
